“Are You an Interpreter for the Right Reason?”

“Are You an Interpreter for the Right Reason?” questions the participants personal

motivation as an interpreter. This course encourages one to self-evaluate their motives while emphasizes the importance of one’s alliance and efforts with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

  • In self-evaluating personal motives, participants will gain deeper insight of their role in advocacy as a communication access point in the deaf community with understanding and gaining tools to accept their own communication skills in ASL as an interpreter

  • These efforts will be supported by an increased understanding of the value of cultural competency and application of Deaf cultural norms as active participants in the Deaf community.
